Ivan Eddie Mullens, age 84, of Independence, VA passed away at his home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 10, 1938, in Welch, WV to Elvie Howard and Rosie Bell Frazier Mullens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Juanita Heffinger Mullens; sister, Connie Damerel; and infant brother, Grey Mullens.
Eddie will be remembered as one who always put others before himself. He always displayed an undying love for his family. He was a great cook who often shared his cooking talents with his family as well as his church family. As a connoisseur of good food, he delighted in "fine dining." While he was always a sharply dressed and well groomed man, Eddie also loved being outdoors. He enjoyed time digging in his garden, fishing on the creek banks, and riding his four-wheeler. In his retirement years, he proved himself a talented carpenter sharing his skills with friends and family. Prior to his retirement, he was a retail manager for Kroger. He retired after 41 years of faithful service.
He is survived by his wife, Louise A. Mullens of the home; two sons, Howard and Lisa Mullens of Moneta, VA and Allen and Deneen Mullens of Cedar Grove, NC; step-mother, Evalee Mullens of Bluefield, WV; brother, Frank and Carol Mullens of Coal Grove, OH; 2 half-brothers, Tommy Sharpe and Denny Sharpe both of Bluefield, WV; 2 half-sisters, Nancy and Chuck Simpson and Ruth Mullens of Bluefield, WV; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; five step-children, Patsy and Jimmy McKnight, Randy and Leslie Osborne, and Rev. David and Debbie Osborne all of Independence, VA, Terri Cox, Brenda Campbell, April and Matthew Lane; 10 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be conducted at Mt. View Baptist Church 112 Mt. View Road Independence, VA on Wednesday, March 15, at 3:00 PM with Pastor David Osborne and Rev. Daniel Mullens officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery.
