Jackie Dean
Stone
November 30, 1937 — October 30, 2022
Jackie Dean Stone, age 84, of the Elk Creek, The Stone's Chapel Community, died on Sunday morning, October 30, 2022, at the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, VA. He was born to Willard Beamer and Lasca Lee Cornett Stone on November 30, 1937, in Elk Creek, Virginia.
Psalm 37:23 states: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. . ." The family and friends of Jackie Stone who have observed his steps over the past 84 years can rejoice in knowing that he has safely arrived home. Jackie grew up attending the Stone's Chapel Church and upon his marriage to Glenda Clarke Hall in 1957, the newly-weds joined the Mt. Zion United Methodist where they faithfully attended long as their health permitted. The birth of their son, Jason, was the highlight of Jackie's life. Jason remained the "apple of his daddy's eye." Jackie was a neighbor who loved serving his community. He found great joy in helping his neighbors. He was a talented carpenter who took great pride in his work. He was patient, precise, and meticulous. These traits he carried into every aspect of his personal life and work ethic. He sought to instill these values in his son's and in his grandchildren's lives. Lindsey Claire Stone, a granddaughter reflected that learning to drive was not a problem for her as she attended "Paw-Paw's driving school." He was a great outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He passed these to his son and grandson, Parker Christian Stone. The love and devotion he had for his grandchildren were unsurpassed; they brought him so much joy and laughter. He loved unconditionally without ceasing. Jackie was loved by many and will be missed by many! He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Evelyn Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Glenda Clarke Hall, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Summer Stone of Rural Retreat, Virginia; two grandchildren, Lindsey Claire Stone and Parker Christian Stone; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services to honor his life will be conducted on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM November 2, 2022, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gleasanna Dixon and Rev. Jimmy Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial will follow on Thursday morning, November 3, 2022, at the Comers Rock Cemetery at 9:00 AM.
Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or American Cancer Fund.
