James Tony
Adams
February 15, 1957 — May 30, 2026
James Tony Adams, age 69, of Independence, VA passed away at the New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA on May 30, 2026. Tony was born in Smyth County, Virginia on Feb. 15, 1957, to James Thomas and Myrtle Campbell Adams.
Tony was very devoted to his family. He was a hard worker who enjoyed his work and was most generous with helping others. Tony will be remembered as one who love to work! He was most content in being outside and working in his garden or any project that would allow him to remain in the outdoors. In his spare time, he could be found hunting or fishing. Many of these experiences were enjoyed with his beloved dog, "Sugar" at his side. Many will remember Tony and his "Sugar" riding the mower together as they mowed the lawn. Tony was a devoted and trustworthy friend. If anybody was fortunate to have Tony as a friend, he was indeed fortunate enough!!!! He always was ready for something sweet to eat- his sweet tooth was never satisfied! Tony never took his life for granted. He often used to say if he could make it to 60, he would have lived a good life. Thankfully, his family and friends enjoyed his company for 69 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved dog, "Sally Ann."
He is survived by his wife, Christine Adams of the home; four daughters, Jennie Hampton (Nathan) Goodview, VA, Liz Delby (Scott) of Galax, VA, Michelle Gunter (Derrick) of Elk Creek, VA, and Amy Blevins of Hillsville, VA; two sons, Eric Giese and Greg Giese both of Greenfield, WI; two sisters, Suzie Anderson of Independence, VA and Janice Sapp (Kenneth) of Elk Creek, VA; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Campbell Cemetery in Troutdale, VA.
