Mr. James Thomas Galyean, age 95, of the Baywood Community of Grayson County passed away at his home on April 4, 2026.  He was born on March 2, 1931, to Coy James and Myrtle Maines Galyean in the Baywood Community.

Mr. Galyean was a truck driver for over 40 years working for Chestnut Creek Furniture Division as well as several other companies.   He was a graduate of Baywood High School and faithfully served the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953.  He was married in 1954, to Rena Lois Farmer.    He delighted in providing for his family and was a devoted husband and loving father.  While he was a hard and dedicated worker, in his rare spare hours, he was most content with a fishing pole in his hand.  He especially enjoyed fishing adventures with his wife and son on Claytor Lake.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Daniels; five brothers, William Galyean, Charles Galyean, Talmadge Galyean, Eldon Galyean, and Jack Galyean.

He is survived by one son, Tommy Galyean (Pam) of Galax; one daughter, Aletta Hanks of Galax; two grandsons, Brandon Galyen (Jada), Zane Hanks (Melissa); one granddaughter, Ashley Galyean; three great-granddaughters, Tinley Galyean, Hollynn Galyean, and Ezme Hanks; special family members, Pat Bond, Diane Murphy, and Ronnie Galyean.

At Mr. Galyean's request, a private graveside service will be conducted with Grayson County VFW #7726.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Baywood Rescue Squad 47 Cross Roads Dr. Galax, Virginia 24333.
