James Robert Moon, age 92 of Charlotte, NC passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Mint Hill Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. In addition to his parents, Mamie and Robert Moon, he is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Faye Creed Moon; brother, Richard Moon; two sisters, Frances Barricks and Winnie Zeh.

Born in Lynchburg, VA, the family soon moved to Federalsburg, MD. where he was raised on a farm.  To this day his sister Peggy tells the story of how he trained a rooster to chase her.  He was quite the character,  although he denied it.  In his early teens the family moved to Norfolk, VA.  That is where he honed his skills as a salesman. He told stories of how he would shine the shoes of the sailors coming to shore on liberty.  They were raring to go and were big tippers.

After a few years in Norfolk, his family relocated to Hopewell, VA where they were reunited with other family members. After graduating from Hopewell High School, he joined the Marine Corps.  This eventually led him to the Millington Naval Base in Memphis where he received his Marine Aviation training.  He met his future lovely bride while attending Bellevue Baptist Church. A few months later he received his transfer orders to El Toro, CA.  He asked for her hand in marriage.  They married in Jan 1954 and spent their honeymoon driving to California. They remained married 68 years until Nita went home to the Lord on March 26, 2022.

Jim loved life and never met a stranger.  His activities included playing softball, bowling, dancing, cooking, and playing cards. Most of all he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He was a great cook and actually cooked more than his wife.  Cooking and playing cards with his family were his greatest passions. The entire family including his mother, sisters Winnie, Frances and Peggy, would gather to play Pinochle, a card game that has been passed down for 4 generations now. Another card game he enjoyed and taught his Granddaughters Lindsay, Ellie, and Sarah was Shang-Hai.  Whenever the family gathered, you could always count on marathon card games. That competitive  drive to beat daddy or granddaddy lives on.

Mr. Moon is survived by two daughters, Debbie Jacobs (Dennis) of Franklin, TN, Terri Moon of Charlotte, NC; one son, Ron Moon (Heidi) of Windsor, CT; one sister, Peggy Grant (Don) of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren, Lindsay (Josh) Schmelzel of SC, Ellie Moon of FL, Sarah Moon also of FL.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home at 2:00PM with speaker David VanHoy officiating.
