In the early evening hours of September 29, 2023, James Frank Valentine, age 83, of Independence, Virginia severed all earthly ties and was called to his eternal reward.  His death took place at the New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA where he had been a patient for three days.  Frank was born on February 12, 1940, in the Fox Creek Community of Grayson County, Virginia to Clarence and Margarette McMillian Valentine.  To know Mr. Frank was to love him.  He was always full of laughter and joy.  He was dedicated to his family and worked hard and diligent to provide for them.  While his health permitted, he was a faithful member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where he loved to serve his community and fellowman.  For many years he was the caretaker of the Oak Grove Cemetery.  In his younger years, Frank followed in the footsteps of his two brothers, Oscar and Bill, and served in the United States Army. He was a very caring and dutiful brother to his only sister, Ann.

Frank is survived by his wife, Easterianna Valentine of Galax, VA; one daughter, Lisa and Fredrick Brown of Sparta, NC; three sons, Jermaine Valentine of Independence, VA, Marques Valentine of Independence, and David Sexton of Virginia; one sister, Ann Parsons of Independence: two brothers, Oscar Valentine of Independence and Bill and Ann Valentine of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Maleke Valentine, Markel Valentine, Fredrick Brown, II, and Rachael Brown; one great-grandson, Atticus Valentine; several nephews and nieces and a special caregiver, Marilyn Smith also survives.

Homegoing Services will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Nettleton officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
