Jerry Reid Morris, Sr, age, 79 of Independence, VA severed all earthly ties at his home on Thursday night, August 24, 2023, and gained his heavenly reward. He was born on October 30, 1943, to Brinnie Pressley.

Jerry was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Independence.  He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and watching purple martins.  He loved being with people especially babies.  He had been a supporting benefactor of St. Jude Children's Hospital for over 25 years.  He loved flowers and enjoyed a clean and tidy yard.  Jerry was known for a good laugh, hard work, and an unprecedented zest for life.  He will be remembered as a beloved father and husband.  He will be greatly missed among his family and friends. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by all his brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Jennette Nicholson Morris of the home; one son Jerry Morris, Jr. of Elk Creek, VA; two daughters, Lorie and Tim Marsh of Longs, SC and Mary Youngblood of Conway, SC; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; the mother of his children, Joyce DeShields of Elk Creek; three stepsons, Jim Nicholson of Brunswick, Ga, Jeff and Paula Nicholson of Yadkinville, NC, Jason Nicholson of Fancy Gap, VA; one step-daughter, Joy and  David Herb of Lynchburg, VA; 10 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; two sisters Phyllis and Janice; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.

The family wishes to express their most sincere appreciation to Mt Valley Hospice of Hillsville, VA for all their loving care and for the prayer blanket.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Aug.  27, 2023, at 5:00 P.M. at the Reins Sturdivant-Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrin Brannock and Rev. Darrin Lambert officiating.  The family will receive friends 4:00-5:00 prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis TN 38105.
