Jessie James Trivett, age 77 of Wytheville, VA, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024, at Grayson Nursing and Health Care Center. Jessie was born on August 20, 1947, to the late Marvin and Rebecca Hart Trivett. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Sharpe Trivett; his siblings, Allie Trivett, Arlie Trivett, Edgar Trivett, Mary Ossie Trivett, Wilma Trivett Strout, J.D. Trivett, Herman Trivett, Betty Trivett Barker, and Bonnie Trivett.

Jessie was a man who truly loved the scripture. He had a heart devoted to the study of God's word, sharing His love with everyone he met. His light shined brightly everywhere he went, and all who knew him knew he loved the Lord with all his heart.

Born with a passion for music, Jessie loved to sing, play his guitar, and share the gospel through song. He played with The King's Messengers, and The Sharpe Family and cherished the moments spent playing old songs with his family and friends. His love for songwriting and recording gospel songs was one of his greatest joys.

Jessie adored his family, and it was no secret how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. He could talk about them for hours. No matter what life brought his way, Jessie had a steadfast belief that "God is still in control," and he often said that when the Lord was ready for him, he was ready to go.

He was a man of simple joys, from woodworking and building birdhouses to spending hours watching the birds he so loved. He loved spending time fishing with his son Chris and treasured the time they spent together by the water. He loved tending to his yard and his flowers. Jessie also had a quick wit, a love for puns, and a silly saying for every situation, always aiming to bring a smile to those around him. Despite any pain he felt, his goal was to brighten someone else's day. He also had a passion for antique cars which resulted in his rebuilding a 1967 Ford Mustang which was gifted to his daughter.

He is survived by his loving son Chris and wife Carey Trivett of Mouth of Wilson, VA; daughter, Michelle and husband Mark Severt of Locust Grove, VA; two granddaughters, Victoria Tavares of Lansing, NC, and Heather Bliss of Locust Grove, VA; one grandson, Isaiah Severt of Locust Grove, VA; and one step-grandson, Brandon Hamm of Whitetop, VA; three great-grandsons,  Charlie, Rowan, and  August Bliss of Locust Grove, VA; one great granddaughter, Mileena Taveres of Lansing, NC; his siblings, Ken and Betty Trivett of Nokesville, VA, Daniel and Mary Trivett of Mouth of  Wilson, VA, Ola Mae Trivett Sheets of Stony Point, NC, Beulah Trivett Blevins of Whitetop, VA, and Barbara Trivett Blevins of Whitetop, VA; several nieces and nephews, as well as his special caregiver, Beverly Morehead, who became a beloved member of the family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Haw Orchard Church in Mouth of Wilson, VA with Rev. Kelly Marshall and Rev. Randy Lovelace officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Hospice of Southwest Virginia. Your love, care, and unwavering support during Jessie's final days were a tremendous blessing, and we will forever be grateful for your kindness.
