Jewell Roop Calderon, age 89, of Abingdon, Virginia passed away at her home on Sunday, January 3, 2021.  She was preceded in death by her parents J.C. (Cicero) Roop and Janice Spencer Roop; brothers, Carl Denny and Howard Roop; sister, Wilma R. Testerman; nephew, Tony Testerman.

She is survived by a nephew, Mike Testerman and wife Barbara of Hillsville, Virginia and great nephew, Don Denny of Wilmington, NC.

She was a nurse with the Veterans Administration at several locations across the United States.  She also taught nursing at Medical College of Virginia.  She was a strong-willed woman who was not easily distracted from her goals.

No services will be held at this time due to Covid restrictions.  Donations in memory of Jewell Calderon can be made to your local Salvation Army location.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Virginia is serving the Calderon family.
