The Rev. Jimmy Clark Hopson, age 81, of Crumpler, North Carolina, was welcomed into his eternal heavenly home after severing all earthly ties at the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.  He was born in Dickinson County, Virginia in the Ramey Flats Community to George Foster and Florence Gibson Hopson on January 20,1941.

Romans 10:15 states: ". . .How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"  Rev. Hopson answered his call into the ministry in 1966 and served faithfully until his death.  All his earthly achievements, he credited to the Glory of God.  In addition to his wisdom and skill as a minister of the gospel, he was a talented carpenter; the combination of these two talents allowed him to be very successful in the uplifting and building of the Kingdom.  While his ministry started in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia at the Daisey Freewill Chapel, he was instrumental in the organization, and building of Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church in Sparta, NC and Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Independence, VA.  He also served as the first Pastor of both these congregations.  During other Pastor appointments in Pugh Mountain in Marion, VA and New Home in Piney Creek, NC, he used his carpentry skills to remodel, update, and add restrooms to existing structures. He was married to Martha Jane McArdel on Feb 23, 1963.  She greatly supported him in his ministry.  To this union were born four children.  Martha Jane was a loving wife and mother, and model Pastor's wife. Ten years following her death on Feb. 20, 2005, Rev. Hopson was married to Kimberly Cox on May 27, 2015.  He and Kim enjoyed traveling together visiting historical places.  They gardened together and loved working with the chickens and being outdoors.  This union brought him much joy.  Rev. Hopson was a talented musician, enjoying several instruments including the banjo.  He was an instructor in shaped note singing proficient in the Sacred Harp and Christian Harmony traditions.  Rev. Hopson never met a stranger, and will be remembered as a loving husband, honorable father, and a friend to all.  He loved fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.

Left to treasure his memory is his wife, Kimberly Cox Hopson of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Kevin and Ginger Hopson of Crumpler, NC; three daughters, Kimberly and Timothy Taylor of Charlotte, NC,  Jamie and Jerry Franks of Greenwood, SC, and Kelly and Dan Hester of Sierra Vista, Arizona; three step daughters, Jeana Phipps of Crumpler, Leslie Hall of Independence, VA, and Elizabeth Hall of Asheville, NC; two sisters, Ruby Dutton of MD and Elizabeth Stanley of VA; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren also survive.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Oct. 14, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, at 10:00 at the Dan Walters Chapel at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Hopson and grandson, Zachary Hopson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Grace Freewill Cemetery in Independence, VA.
