John Lee Collier, Sr, age 88, of Troutdale, Virginia passed away at his home on August 22, 2025.  John was born in Ida County Iowa to John and Neita Siple Collier on March 7, 1937.  John faithfully served in the United States Army in Korea from 1956 – 1958 and United States Army Reserves from 1958 - 1962. Following his military service, he began work in the Department of Defense at the Pentagon where he retired after 33 years. During his tenure at the DOD at the Pentagon, he met and married Sandra Anne Kidd in June of 1963.  Upon retirement, they purchased a Christmas Farm in Grayson County, Virginia (after much encouragement from his wife.)

John was affectionately known as "Sugar" to his family and "Pops" to his children and "Sugar Pops" to his great grandchildren.  For many years, he dedicated many hours to his hobby of stamp collecting.  He was an avid golfer.  He will be remembered for his quick wit.  He loved to maintain his lawn.  He found great joy in watching his grandchildren play on his farm and loved to joke with people.

In addition to his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Forrest, Richard, Shirley, Ronnie and Donnie; brother-in-law, Milton Kidd.

He is survived by three daughters, Cassandra and Ronnie Ball of Troutdale, VA, Kelly and Don Herter of Hampstead, NC, and Terri Collier of Virginia; two sons, John and Tina Collier of Troutdale VA and Richard Collier of Manassas Park, VA; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Lynn and Al Tilson of Stafford, VA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
