John Francis Devine, III

John Francis Devine, III, known as Jacky, passed away on the evening of Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Sale, NC. He was born in Washington, DC on August 26, 1955, to John Francis Devine, Jr. and Wanda Lee Parks Devine. Jacky will be remembered as a selfless person always willing and able to help others. He found great joy in providing for his family and his friends as well. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest achievement was his family. He was especially proud of his boys and his grandchildren. He spent may happy hours of his youth with a fly rod on Fox Creek. While he was an avid fisherman and hunter, he nurtured a fondness of all animals especially his “yard deer.” He enjoyed his evening meal only after his animals had all been fed. His special canine, Bo and his faithful feline, Daisy were deeply treasured companions to him. During his working years as a manager of a variety of machinist companies and factories, he made many loyal friends. In his personal time, he enjoyed playing the guitar, a passion that he shared with anyone who would listen. He was a loyal member of the Pine Branch Baptist Church. While his extensive host of friends and family are deeply saddened at his passing, they are comforted and sustained by the same faith that he nurtured him throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Alice H. Devine of the home; two sons, Patrick and Kayla Devine and Brandon and Kayla M. Devine all of Independence, VA; two sisters, Sandy Cox and Barbara and Jerry Friedley both of Galax, VA; six grandchildren, Aden, Colt, Peyton, Lucas, Willow and Gracie; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Pine Branch Baptist Church in the Fox Creek Community of Independence, VA with Rev. Jay Hawkins and Rev. Tim Barr officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1:00 -2:00 PM.
