John Levi Halsey, age, 86, of Speedwell, Virginia, died on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at his home.  He was born on February 5, 1934 in Independence, Virginia (Bridle Creek Community) to Paul James and Claudia Osborne Halsey.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bronson Halsey and Bryan Halsey, half-brother, Loye Halsey; two half-sister, Mary Rutherford and Louise Halsey, son and daughter-in-law, John Lewis and Sharon Pruitt Halsey, daughter, Eula Jean Halsey Greer.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie Maude Halsey of home; son-in-law, Perry B. Greer, Jr. of Rural Retreat, Virginia; son and wife, Kenneth and Sandra Halsey of Rural Retreat; son, Samuel D. Halsey of Wytheville, Virginia; sister, Juanita Phipps; grandchildren, Jarrod and LeAnn Halsey, Doddie and Josh Greer, Daphne Wren, Travis Halsey, Sam Halsey, and Chad Halsey; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Gold Hill Cemetery in the Gold Hill Community with Rev. Kenny Price and Rev. Jerry Creasy officiating.
