John Sherrod Richardson, age, 74 of Whitetop, VA passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at the Johnson Memorial Medical Center in Abingdon, VA.  He was born on December 9, 1949, in Marion, VA to Delmar Wayne and Colleen Vina Weaver Richardson.

He enjoyed a simple life, void of the trappings of prestige and fame.  He found great contentment in feeding his animals which included his cats, and any coons, deer, and birds that were fortunate enough to find his home.  He was a great fan of farming magazines and National Geographic.  He found great joy in gardening and will be remembered for maintaining three gardens during one season.  He always took an interest in the local Whitetop weather and journaled the weather for years.

John is survived by his sister, Tamara and Freddy Duncan of Mt. City, TN; one brother, Steven Richardson of Chilhowie, VA;  one aunt, Ruth Waller of Wilmington, NC; several cousins also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Byars Cemetery in Whitetop, VA with the Rev. Armand Jalbert officiating.
