Kaye Anderson Wellborn, 92, of Independence, Virginia died July 24, 2024.  She was born on election day November 2, 1931, in Flat Ridge, Virginia, the fifth child of six of the late Lee Arthur Anderson and Vergie Emma Hash Anderson.  She was predeceased by her husband Fred Hill Wellborn.

Mrs. Wellborn was a proud graduate of Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.  She was known and loved by family as "MawMaw Kaye."  She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Independence, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, kept the nursery, and help lead the Women's Ministry. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7726.

She is survived by her younger sister Lucie B. Wright; daughter Doris Thornton Halsey and her husband  William "Buddy" Halsey of Independence, VA; son Mark Alan Thornton and Lisa Sutton of Charleston, WV; and daughter Luci Renae Wellborn of Independence, VA. Six grandchildren, Jared Wellborn Hanna, Derrik Alan Thornton, William McTier Halsey, Hardin Lee Halsey, Emma Hanna Morissette and Mattie Ferguson Hanna and 3 great grandsons and several nieces and nephews also survive. Arrangements are being handled by Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Virginia.  A memorial service will be held August 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Independence.  The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
