Obituary

Kevin Halsey, 45, of Mouth of Wilson, passed over to his heavenly home on October 11. He passed away in his earthly home surrounded by his loving family.  Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Virginia, will handle the arrangements. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Fox Creek Cemetery in Independence, Virginia by Rev. Doug Turnmire and Rev. Doug Halsey.

Kevin, a beloved son, father, brother, step-brother, uncle, and dear friend, was born on October 23, 1974, in Galax, Virginia, to Diane Tulbert and John Halsey. Kevin was a lifelong lover of drag racing and spent many weekends with his racing family at Elk Creek Dragway. He was also very passionate about sports and the weather; his favorite teams were Duke and the Steelers. His greatest love in life was his children, Jeffrey and Kelly. He was a devoted and loving father and they were his absolute pride and joy.

Kevin is survived by his loving children, Jeffrey Halsey of the home and Kelly Halsey of Johnson City Tennessee; his devoted mother Diane Chandler Tulbert and step-father Danny Tulbert of Hamptonville, North Carolina; his dedicated father John Halsey and step-mother, Penny Halsey of Independence, Virginia; his brother, Jay Halsey and wife, Rhonda of Troutdale, Virginia; his niece Hayley Halsey and nephew Hayden Halsey both of Troutdale, Virginia; his step-brother Nathaniel Cordes and wife, Lynn of Elgin, Oklahoma; his step-nieces Naleah Cordes and Joslynn Cordes of Elgin, Oklahoma; his sweet cats, Oscar and Annie; and multitudes of close friends and extended family.

Kevin never knew a stranger and was a true friend to everyone he met. He will be remembered fondly for his boyish grin, his silly sense of humor, his generous and enormous heart, and his loyalty and dedication to the people he loved. He was truly one of a kind and his memory will live on as a shining example to the rest of us.
