Larry James Anders, age 75 of Independence, VA, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.

Larry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, whose life was filled with love, hard work, and great appreciation for the simple joys of life.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Nancy Anders, of the home; his son, Lorne Anders of Troutdale, VA; his daughter, Patricia Woods, and David Poe, of Sparta, NC. He also leaves behind three brothers, Gail Anders, and Jimmy Anders of Independence, VA and Tommy Anders and wife Roxanne also of Independence, VA; one sister, Marion and Poncho Placco, of Sparta, NC; and a half-sister, Juanita Shaffer, of Churchville, MD.

Larry was a proud grandfather to Arlin Anders of Troutdale, VA, and Amber and husband Darryl Stovall, also of Troutdale. He cherished his great-grandchildren, Elijah and Liam Stovall of Troutdale, VA, and Macy Anders of Mount Airy, NC. In addition, Larry is survived by a host of  nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walker McKinley and Louise Anders; his son, Stacy Anders; his sister, Anna Ruth Baker; his brother, Mack Junior Anders; his daughter-in-law, Chloe Anders; 2 half borthers, X and Leonard Anders; four half sisters, Faye Kilby, Hazel Wright, Carolyn Anders, and Lib Shaffer; and also several nieces and nephews.

Larry loved gardening and spent many happy hours at his sawmill, logging and working with wood. He found great joy in taking his dogs, Jake and Queenie, for walks, and he adored his cats, Lucky and Charlotte. One of his favorite pastimes was going out to eat with his wife, Nancy, where they enjoyed each other's company. Larry treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Larry was a dedicated member of the Carsonville Full Gospel Church and his faith was an important part of his life. He will be remembered for his kind heart, and his love for his family.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Independence Town Cemetery.
