Larry Joe
Richardson
July 23, 1970 — September 28, 2024
Larry Joe Richardson age, 54, of the Rugby Community of Mouth of WiIson, VA passed away at his home on Saturday, September 28, 2024. He was born in Marion, Virginia to Richard Dean and Kate Wood Richardson on July 23, 1970.
He was a much-loved employee of Vannoy Construction in West Jefferson, NC as a heavy equipment mover. He was a good neighbor always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved the community of Rugby and especially all the "Rugby Boys." Joe was always collecting things that he loved to put on public display at his home on Wilson Creek. The unhurried motorist who took time to stop by his home would be welcomed by a "Joe Richardson Zen Garden and Gazebo Park" complete with vintage motorcycle parts. Joe was a motorcycle enthusiast always willing to promote any motorcycle brand but was a self-proclaimed Harley fan! He was an authority of music of the 1980's. Many tried to catch him in an 80's music error, but he always prevailed. He loved being with his son and his two grandchildren. In his leisure time, he could be found watching the Simpsons and Mystery Science Theater. Joe lived a simple life void of the trappings of prestige. He sought neither fame nor fortune but found great joy in living his simple life.
He is survived by his son, Richard Dean and Laken Richardson of Bristol, VA; fiancée, Betsy Barker of Independence, VA; two grandchildren, Mace Richardson and Iyla Richardson; two special aunts, Nona Richardson of Mouth of Wilson, VA and Mary Ann "Jim" Billings of Speedwell, VA; two special uncles, Bus and Janice Wood of Mouth of Wilson, VA and Snook and Judy Wood of Mouth of Wilson, VA; he is also survived by a host of extended family and the Rugby Community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Dean Richardson.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00-4:00 PM. His friends will officiate.
