Lenna Hope
Brooks
February 15, 1930 — June 23, 2023
Lenna Brooks of Lansing, NC, went to heaven on June 23, 2023 at age 93.
Lenna was born to Rufus Franklin and Margaret Dell Parsons on February 15, 1930. Lenna married Lonnie Brooks on July 28, 1946. Together, they had four children: Lisa Avery (Scott), Judy Moser Smith (George), Gary Brooks (Julie), and Stephen Brooks (Deceased). Lenna was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie after 44 years of marriage.
She was a nurturing grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: Madison, Brooklyn, Jordan, Andrew, Ryan (Emily), Joseph, Oliver (Danielle), & Thomas, Hannah Grace, Easton, and Jenson. Her children and grandchildren loved gathering down at "the farm" for meals on Sunday afternoons and around the holidays. She also hosted an annual Parsons family reunion along with her four sisters Gaye Nichols (Gary), Allean Amburn (Bud), Nell Roberts, and Wilma Moore (Deceased) when the entire family would gather to eat, share stories, and float down the river.
Lenna was a devout member of church all her life. Her purpose in life was to touch others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and she faithfully prayed for her family and friends. She was a longtime member and Children's Song Leader at Landmark Baptist Church, where she first introduced Vacation Bible School. In the later years of her life, she was a member and choir singer at Friendship Baptist Church.
Lenna extended true southern hospitality to everyone she crossed paths with. She managed the farm and gardened for most of her life, and she loved sharing food with her neighbors. She was an excellent cook and was known for making meals and pies for people in the community. Some of her most popular dishes were chicken pot pie, rhubarb pie, and green beans and corn from her garden.
She enjoyed making wreaths and won the National Wreath Making Competition and had the honor of her wreaths being featured in the White House three times. Her other pastimes included weaving baskets, admiring the birds and flowers in her garden, and lots of shopping.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Friendship Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Howell Hill Cemetery on Silas Creek Road.
Flowers are appreciated or memorial contribution may be made to the donor's choice.
