Leonard McKinley Wooten, age 96, of Independence, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023, at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg, Virginia, and is now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who touched the lives of many with his warmth, wisdom, and kindness. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Leff and Lillian Anders Wooten; his loving wife, Katherine Hash Wooten; daughter, Elaine Wooten Roberts; Son, Johnny Mack Lee Wooten; great-great granddaughter, Payton Lyrik Sawyers; great-great grandson, Noah Thomas; and his sister Dorothy Wooten Jones.

Leonard is survived by two devoted daughters, Rebecca and Ralph Catron of Independence, Virginia, and Audrey and Danny Tolley of Fries, Virginia. He cherished his role as a father and found joy in watching his family grow and flourish.

Leonard's legacy also lives on through his beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to him: Lynn Roberts of Independence, Virginia, Denise Brown of Sparta, North Carolina, Amy Halsey of South Carolina, Emily Reedy of Galax, Virginia, Dana and Dean Billings of Glade Valley, North Carolina, and David Roberts of Independence, Virginia. He cherished their presence in his life.

His great-grandchildren include Brittney and Tyler Moore, Mikala and Otto Alley, Shawn Campbell, Luke and Brea Marsh, Mason Brown, Maleke Valentine, Tevin Long, Evan Reedy, Emma Richardson, Caleb Richardson, Elijah Richardson, Ethan Richardson, and Ansley Thomas. Several great-great-grandchildren survive; and also his son-in-law, Darel Roberts of Independence, VA.

Leonard was a man of integrity, warmth, and love. His legacy will endure through the memories and the love he shared with his family. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He lived a life filled with a deep love for the Lord, a passion for playing and listening to music, and was known for loving chewing tobacco, spinning colorful tales, and pulling good-natured jokes on his beloved family.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Rev. Danny Tolley and Grayson County VFW Post 7726 officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Grace Freewill Cemetery in Independence, VA.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of being a part of his life.
