Obituary

Lila Vernon Reedy Campbell, age 94, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, the Volney community passed away on Tuesday evening, July 19, 2022, in the same house in which she was born on April 5, 1928.  Her children watched as she was carried from her home that she had known in her childhood- the home she had known as a young bride- the home she had known as a young mother- and the home that was known as grandma's house, great grandma's house and great-grandma's house.  Mrs. Campbell will be remembered as a loving, caring, patient and giving person.  She was a devoted wife to her husband, Carl Campbell, who preceded her in death.  She was a loving and dutiful daughter to her parents, Charles Swanson and Ossie Dell Perkins Reedy.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Reeves; infant sister, Delores Reedy; and brother, Bob Reedy.

Mrs. Campbell used all her energy in making a warm and comfortable home for her family.  She delighted in providing for her husband and children and in recent years, her family grew to include three more generations.  Her grandchildren recalled that she was her happiest when her house and yard were filled with children.  It was of utmost importance to her that everyone- family and friends alike- was made to feel at home in her house!  She loved her flowers, her garden, and her birds!  She was an active member of the Little Wilson United Methodist Church where she was involved in all aspects of the church.  She was a dedicated member of the Rugby Rescue Squad support group actively involved in the quilt group and the Apple Butter Making. She was described by her sons-in-law as a wonderful mother-in-law.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa and Bobby Elliott of Ennis, NC and Vedena and Mike Farmer of Mouth of Wilson, VA; three sons, Michael and Pam Campbell of Mouth of Wilson, VA, C.L. and Karen Campbell of Abingdon, VA, and Darrell and Nikki Campbell of Troutdale, VA; ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nieces also survive.

Funeral services to honor this remarkable life will be held on Friday, July 22, at 2:00 PM at the Little Wilson United Methodist with Pastor, Mike Newman officiating. Mrs. Campbell will lie in state in her beloved church one hour prior to the funeral service.
