Lisa Joan Sexton Phipps, age 61, of Winchester, VA formerly of Independence, Virginia died in Winchester at the Willows at Meadows Branch, an assisted living center.  She was born on October 1, 1960, in Sparta, NC to Lawrence and Joan Anders Sexton.  In her professional career she was a Registered Nurse.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hughey Phipps.

She is survived by her daughter Michelle and Chris Cody of Winchester; two grandchildren, Kristen and Sean Cody of Winchester; Special Aunt, Lockey Kirk of Independence, VA; Uncle, Jesse Anders of Comers Rock; Aunts, Joyce Bunn of Hillsville, VA and Gardella Sexon of Independence; Uncle Scott and Aunt Betty Sexton of Comers Rock;  Uncles, Jackie, Jeff and Jonathan Anders and James Hayes; several cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mike Montgomery.  The family will gather at 12:00 noon and will receive friend until the hour of service.  Burial will follow in the Independence Town Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial be made to First Baptist Church in Independence, VA.
