Louisa Irene Shaver passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Abingdon, VA at the age of 93.

Irene was born in Sparta, NC on March 6, 1927, to the late Rob and Lillie Hendrix. She was preceded in death by her husband M.C. Shaver, Jr, Sister Blanche Evans, Brother-In-Law Grayson Collins and Daughter-In-Law Judith Shaver.

She graduated from Alleghany High School in Sparta, NC and attended Cosmology School in North Wilkesboro, NC.

She was self-employed as a cosmologist for 62 years and served many customers over the years in her home beauty shop. Together Irene and twin sister, Lorene Collins, opened the Twins Fabric Store on Main Street in Independence, VA for several years. She also worked as a Senior Citizens Site Manager for District Three for 27 years. Irene was a founding member of the Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad and stayed active for many years. She was member of the VFW Post 7726 Ladies Auxiliary for most of her life.

She was a member of the Shiloh Methodist Church Sparta, NC and attended the First United Methodist Church in Independence, VA for most of her life.

Survivors include Sister Lorene Collins of Independence, VA; children: Danny Shaver of Pulaski, VA., Nolan Shaver and wife Holly from Bel Air, MD; Kim Vanhoy and husband Andy of Marion, VA. Grandchildren: Katharine Shaver, Olivia Vanhoy and Preston Vanhoy; step grandchildren: Shane Cultice and Jeremy Cultice; Many step great grandchildren.  Many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, family at 1:00 and friends at 2:00. Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, February 14, at 3:00pm at Shiloh Methodist Church in Sparta, NC with Jeff Collins officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family.
