Lula Bell
Walls Hamm
March 25, 1940 — August 28, 2025
Lula Bell Walls Hamm, age 85, of Independence, VA formerly of the Whitetop Community, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2025, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Mrs. Ham was born on March 25, 1940, in Whitetop to Lacy and Gladys Greer Walls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Edward Hamm and her granddaughter, Amanda Reece.
Lula Bell was a lady of great faith which help carry her through all her struggles throughout the years. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed providing meals for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her many canned goods as well as her famous chicken and dumplings! Sharing her food with her neighbors was of great importance to her. She enjoyed all animals and was especially fond of her caregiver's dog, "Tiny." She loved to laugh and found great joy in living her life. She never met a stranger and was always willing to open her home to anybody in need. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. While reflecting upon her life, her children and grandchildren agreed that she never had a bad word to say about anybody. While her passing has left a great void, her family and friends rejoice in the testimony that Lula Bell has left. They are greatly comforted in knowing that she has made it home and is in safe keeping until they can join her.
Mrs. Hamm is survived by three sons, Lacy and Louise Hamm of Lansing, NC, Ronald and Kathy Hamm of Whitetop, VA, and Michael and Wendy Hamm of Warrensville, NC; two brothers, Tommy Walls of Independence, VA and Eddie Walls of Rugby, VA; two sisters, "Swan" Juanita Dolinger of Jefferson, NC and Wanda Blevins of Lansing, NC; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; special friend and caregiver, Lori Kennedy ; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence, VA with Rev. John Hall and Rev. Anthony Roark officiating.
