Mae Barker, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away at home on June 16, 2024 at the age of 89, surrounded by her family. Mae was born June 20, 1934 to the late David Parks and Idella Joines Ray of Independence, VA. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Muncy Mitchell Barker of Independence, VA.

She is survived by her children Mary Carol Phipps and son-in-law Bob, Murfreesboro, TN; Charlotte Lusby and son-in-law Russ, Parkville, MD; Richard Barker, Huntersville, NC. She  loved many and was loved by many including Freddie Barker and Mary Hartsell, 10 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many extended family members.

Mae was an avid Baltimore Orioles and John Wayne fan. She was a lover of Jesus and loved sharing her faith. She supported missionaries around the world, adored traveling, loved the beach and enjoyed flowers. Mae always wanted to be a pilot, but settled for a flying lesson on her 80th birthday. Her greatest treasure beside her faith in Christ was her family and friends.

Mae and her husband raised their family in Baltimore, MD where she was a successful entrepreneur. Upon retirement she returned to her hometown of Independence, VA where she enjoyed volunteering in her community and church. She later moved to Tennessee to surround herself with family.  She loved to competitively play games with family and was referred to as "Shark. "

Funeral services will be held on June 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, VA. Viewing will take place prior to service between 12 and 1pm. A private graveside ceremony will be held for immediate family at Forest Cemetery in Elk Creek, VA.
