Obituary

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way.  Psalms 37:23.   It is with deepest regret that the family of Malcom Arnold announces his passing on October 16, 2023, at Senior Home Shares in Galax, Virginia.  Born in the Crumpler Community in North Carolina on July 6, 1931, to Alfred Talmadge and Liza Ellen Blevins Arnold, Malcom was a 1952 graduate of Virginia Carolina High School.  Malcom professed faith in Christ at the age of 26 and lived his life founded in the faith.  While his family regrets his death, they are delighted in knowing that he "finished his course" and entered into the joys of eternal life- welcomed by his loving parents and grandparents who were pillars of the Christian faith in the Grassy Creek Community.   He served in the United States Navy for four years.  Malcom was a self-employed carpenter whose work was known for its precise and extraordinary craftsmanship.  In his retirement years, he was most often found in his wood shop building furniture for family and friends.  His generous contributions were often donated for charity benefits for sick neighbors or other worthy causes. Malcom lived a life of impeccable service and dedication to his Lord, family, neighbors, and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Mae Halsey Arnold "Polly" of the home; his daughter, Melissa Ann and David Drummond of Newport, NC; three grandchildren, April Marie and Caleb Ballard of Hubert, NC and Amber Drummond of Hubert, NC, and David Drummond of Hubert, NC; one great granddaughter, Julia Rose Ballard of Hubert, NC and one great grandson, James Colton Ballard of Hubert NC; two sisters, Delephyne Arnold McMillan of WA, and Dorsey Ann and Terry Pruitt of Crumpler, NC; two brothers, Sonny Talmadge Arnold of Piney Creek, NC and Melvin and Peggy Arnold of Winter Haven, Florida; several nieces and nephews also survive.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, R. C. Arnold and his sister, Loraine Hutchins.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00 at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Eller officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 on Friday, October 20, 2023.  Burial will follow at the Grassy Creek Community Cemetery in Grassy Creek, NC with military honors conducted by Grayson County VFW Post #7726 and the United States Navy.   Funeral services will be live streamed at this website.
