Maretha Hackler Harrington, age 90, of Independence, Virginia died at her home on Thursday, August 13, 2020. She was born on September 13, 1929 to Dewey and Zenna Hale Sutherland in Elk Creek, Virginia.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Fola Hackler and Edmon Harrington; four brothers, L. B. Sutherland, Alvin Sutherland, Edd Sutherland, and Claiborne Sutherland;  two sisters, Wanica Lundy and Clara Mae Jones.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Lewis Phelps of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia and Brenda and Richard Brown of Elk Creek, Virginia; step-daughter, Jewell Satterfield of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sister and spouse, Nancy and Aubrey Caldwell of Elk Creek, Virginia; four grandchildren, Travis and Crystal Brown, Christie and Justin Bowman, Carla and Travis Lane, Robbie and Megan Phelps;  six great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kristen Brown, Mason and Carter Bowman, Joshua Lane, and Callie Phelps; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Lebanon Cemetery in Elk Creek, Virginia at 11:00 am by Rev. David Osborne.
