Margaret Louise Hale McGrady, better known as Dolly, age 83, of Elk Creek, Virginia passed away at her home on Sunday, March 9, 2025.  She was born in Wythe County on February 4, 1942, to James Everett and Margaret Benton Hale.  Dolly graduated from Marion High School.   Dolly was a much-loved special education teacher's assistant for 35 years.  She was a dedicated life-time member of the Elk Creek Rescue Squad serving as an EMT for over 20 years.    She was also a member of the Grayson County VFW Post #7726 Auxiliary.  Dolly loved flowers and wildlife with her favorite being red Cardinals which were well fed at her home daily.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother.  Dolly knew no strangers and was loved by everybody.  Her kind and friendly nature was her trademark and she will be greatly missed among her neighbors and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ira Kenneth McGrady, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay McGrady and Freddy Cline of Sparta, NC; one son, Kenny and Kim McGrady of Troutdale, VA; one granddaughter, Jasey Ham of Sparta, NC; four grandsons, Joseph and Jessica Phipps of United States Marines in Alabama, Jacob and Bailey Phipps of Sparta, NC; K.D. McGrady of Troutdale, VA and Slade McGrady of Troutdale, VA; great-granddaughters, Joscelyn Phipps and Nora Gray Phipps.

Memorial services will be conducted on March 22, 2025, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA at 1:00 PM with Junior Brown and David VanHoy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
