Obituary

Margaret Marie Reeves, age 92, of Independence, VA transitioned from earth to Glory on Friday, April 28, 2023, at her home. She was born February 21, 1931, to Rose Lessie McKinney in Elk Creek, VA. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Reeves; brother, Marlie McKinney, and grandson, Gregory Lee. She attended school in Elk Creek and completed the 6 th grade. She married George Reeves July 26, 1947. To this union were born five children, Gladys Lee, Nancy Hash, George Reeves, Jr., Doris Phipps and Rita Reeves.

Margaret became a member of the Gospel Temple Church under the leadership of Elder Mary R. Milliner. She has held many different positions in the church including, Deaconess, Head Mother, Sunday School Department Adult Class Teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was a faithful worker in the church, especially for the Women's Day and Pastoral Anniversary. All agree- she was never surpassed on Pledges!

She was known for her fried chicken, potato salad, red velvet and carrot cake. She was a great missionary in her community as she loved all the youth and all were her grand babies.

Margaret was employed as a housekeeper for several different families. She also worked for Osborne's Motel and Black Rock Restaurant as a cook. Her children always looked forward to her coming home with all the "goodies" she would bring to them. Her last employment was at Grayson Garments where she remained until her retirement.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory four daughters, Gladys and Guy Lee of Independence, VA; Nancy and Leonard Hash of Roanoke, VA, Doris and Gerald Phipps of Independence, VA, and Rita Reeves of Galax, VA; one son, George Reeves Jr. of the home; three honorary daughters, Andrae Washington of Roanoke, VA, Marilyn Smith of Independence, VA and Rinda Sue Hurt of Independence, VA; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; special cousin, Lessie Lee Parsons of Independence, VA and a host of cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Gospel Temple #1 in Independence, VA with Elder Dayle McKinney and Pastor, Bishop Charles Milliner officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Independence, VA. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 at the church.
