Obituary

Margaret Jean Taylor, 78, of Independence, went home with Jesus, her Savior and Lord, on a beautiful Spring Day, Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, Surry County County, North Carolina after a brief illness.

Margaret was born October 5, 1943, in the home of the Cox Family, to the late Duite Eugene Cox and Mazy Ann Parsons Cox.

She graduated from Independence High School in the class of 1962. She then attended business school at the National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia.

On November 30, 1963, Margaret married Mr. David Preston Taylor, Jr. at the "Old" Brush Creek Baptist Church in Independence, VA.

She was a devoted wife to her husband during his career as an FBI Special Agent working as secretary, homemaker and mother accompanying him to Arlington VA, Plattsburgh, NY, Cleveland, OH, Charleston, WV, and Bristol, VA while raising a family until finally settling back home on the family farm in Independence.

After her retirement, Margaret dedicated herself to working alongside her husband raising beef cattle and being an active in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and GA's and RA's at Brush Creek Baptist Church.  She had a wonderfully adventurous soul in books, mystery, history and especially family genealogy as it relates to the surrounding local history.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Joseph Cleveland "JC" Cox in 1948 and her husband, of 49 years, David P. Taylor on March 15, 2013.

She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Louise Taylor Brown (Richard A. Brown, Jr.) of Christiansburg, VA and a son, Dr. David Preston Taylor III, of the home in Independence, VA.

Margaret was especially proud of her granddaughters, Virginia Lee Brown and Rebecca Lynn Brown and delighted in talking and playing with her great-granddaughter, Selah Emilee Lucas.

Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday at 2:30 PM at the Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Independence, Virginia.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA.
