Obituary

Marvin "Tom" Thomas Burcham of Independence, 75, passed away on October 28, 2024.  He was born on October 3, 1949, to Ruby and Graham Burcham of Wythe County.  He adored his soulmate, Jennie Evon Burcham, and spent nearly every day of their 47 years of marriage either sharing that love or telling someone about her. He loved the Lord and his family with a deep and abiding fierceness.  Daddy—a title he took so seriously—was an extension of the love of his Heavenly Father.  He never hesitated to lead, love, guide, or support his girls in any of their dreams or goals.  Tom never missed a chance for a good, clean joke with a cup of black coffee in hand.  He was a proud Vietnam Veteran and liked nothing more than to tell everyone about how the US Army was the only branch of service worth talking about.  He never met a stranger and loved everyone.  He lived as Jesus lived and cared for each and every person he encountered, from his beloved band kids to the person sitting beside him at Aunt Bea's to his church family.  Pastor Burcham, a true man of God, always had words of encouragement or a sermon ready to share right alongside a good hunting story or an embarrassing story about his girls in their childhood.  He was a Godly, kind-hearted, loving role model who will be greatly missed by his family and community.Tom is preceded in death by his parents (Graham & Ruby), one brother (Gilmer), and one sister (Darlene).

He is survived by his wife, Evon, daughters, Jeanie (Juston) Hollar, and Erin (Brandon) West.  He has four wonderful grandchildren whom he absolutely adored—Jackson and Julia Hollar and Amelia and Ellisyn West.  His surviving siblings are Annalee Carico, Virginia Tate, Nellie Mabe, Fay Ratcliffe, Susan (Herman) Tate, Andy (Phyllis) Burcham, and Roger (Mary) Burcham along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces,  great nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and other extended family. He also leaves his extensive church families of Beech Grove Baptist and Chestnut Hill Baptist.
