Mary M. Wingate, age 81, of Elk Creek, Virginia died on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the Grayson Rehabilitation and Health Center in Independence, Virginia.  She was born in the Elk Creek Community on September 2, 1940, to Gwyn Their McLean and Fairy Vaughn McLean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe McLean and her husband of 55 years, Bays A. Wingate.  She is survived by her brother Jack McLean of Oregon; special friend and caregiver, Jimmy Waller of Elk Creek, Virginia; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Mrs. Wingate will be remembered for her love of animals, especially cats.  She supplied food for her cats as well those in the neighborhood.  She loved reading, music, needlework and crafts.   She also had a love and passion for farming.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday morning, April 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bob Cheeks.  There will be no visitation prior to the service. Private burial will follow in the Jerusalem Cemetery in Elk Creek, Virginia.
