Matthew Timothy Petty, better known as Tim, age 56, of Independence, VA passed away on Monday September 18, 2023, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  Tim was born on March 13, 1967, in Sparta, NC to Robert Clay and Judy Allred Petty who preceded him in death.

Tim lived a simple life void of the trappings of prestige and fame.  He was often heard saying, "in a hundred years, it wont' matter anyway!" and "it is what it is!"  While he will be remembered as a "opinionated" person, he was very generous and giving. He spent his working years as a well drilling operator.  Tim enjoyed the outdoors and valued squirrel, rabbit, and coon hunting. He loved dogs, especially hunting dogs. He was an avid NASCAR fan but found his greatest joy in being with his grandchildren.  Tim was well known and loved in his community and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his fiancée, Katrina W. Hill of Independence; two daughters, Autumn and Scott Hall of Ronda, NC and Maegan Warren of State Road, NC; two brothers, Robert Clay Petty, Jr. and Jerry Coffey of Myrtle Beach, SC and Justin and Cigi Petty of Sparta, NC; one sister, Tessa and Kevin Sharp of Hillsville, VA; four grandchildren, Addy Belle, Memphis, Brooks, and Collins-Kate; four nieces and one nephew and a special friend, Jim Testerman of Hillsville, VA also survive.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22, 2022, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence from 11:00-12:00 noon.  Graveside services will follow at 12:30 PM at the Joines Whitehead Cemetery in Sparta, NC with Rev. Pete Hawks officiating.
