Mickey Clyde
Daniel
June 5, 1944 — November 30, 2025
Mickey Clyde Daniel, age 81, of Sugar Grove, Virginia passed away on Sunday November 30, 2025, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, TN. He was born on June 5, 1944, in the Volney Community of Mouth of Wilson, VA to Robert Dean and Annie Sells Daniel.
True to his Appalachian heritage, Mickey was at home in the woods with rifle in hand or on the creek banks armed with a fishing pole. He was known among the locals as "Mayor of Volney." Following his high school graduation from Virginia Carolina High School in Grassy Creek, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served four years as a Navy Gunner. Mickey began a career in insurance sales which served him well throughout his life. He adhered to the basic principles of honesty and integrity throughout his 50-year career always putting the needs of his customers first. He was a proud grandfather who delighted in being with his grandchildren. His children were amazed at how "he mellowed out.!" Among the most defining characteristics of Mickey was his capability for providing random acts of kindness. He was always scouting for individuals who needed a helping hand and found quiet and private means of offering help.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Len Daniel; two sisters, Mary Edith Halsey and Iva Staton; and one brother Robert Graham Lacey Daniel.
He is survived by two sons, Michael and Debbie Daniel of Georgia and Robert Lee and Gwen Daniel of Bluff City, TN; special friend and caregiver, Debbie Cox of Sugar Grove, VA; her daughter, Christy Worley and her grandsons Garrett and Chandler Worley; six grandchildren, Shana, Lindsey, Samantha, Talor, Gracie, and Rush; five grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Volney Baptist Church with Pastor Rev. Doug Halsey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Grayson County VFW Post 7726 and the United States Navy. Burial will follow in the Daniel Cemetery in the Volney Community.
