Mildred Odessa Carson Anderson, age 99, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia peacefully passed away at her home where she spent the last 77 years of her life.  She was born on Nov. 18, 1924, in Grant, Virginia to George and Verda Ellen Porter Carson.  She was married to Sherman Anderson who preceded her in death.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen Lee Suits and her son Ray McCoy Anderson: brothers, infant brother and Porter Carson: sisters, Nina Wells, Fern Greear, and Lenna Schnoor. Mildred was a member of Young's Chapel Baptist Church for over seventy years.  She was a lady of great faith, and her surviving family are greatly comforted in knowing that she was welcomed into heaven by a host of family and friends.  Mildred was no stranger to hard work.  She delighted in working and providing for her family and supporting her husband in every aspect of operating the family farm as well as maintaining her own public employment.  She was a dedicated employee of Grayson Garment in Independence, VA and later for Guynn Furniture in Independence, VA where she earned the admiration and respect of her co-workers.  She was the last surviving charter member of the Grant Goodwill Grange where she was a faithful member for the past 63 years.  She served as Grange Secretary for 39 years. Mrs. Anderson will perhaps best be remembered as the community seamstress.  She daily entertained people in her home who came seeking her accomplished sewing skills.  Her projects included everything from dresses for the Governor's Ball, wedding parties, and of course, the annual senior prom!  There was never a sewing challenge to difficult for her to accept.  Mildred was always interested in her clients and once commented that she had altered many a wedding dress for individuals that she had also sewn their baby clothes.  Her clients became lifelong friends and she always kept up with each one with keen interest.  Mildred did not limit her interest only to her community, she was always abreast on state as well as national activities and events.  She always maintained an interest in politics and was a dedicated member of the Republican Party and would be greatly pleased knowing it was mentioned in her obituary!  Mildred Anderson lived a life of service to her family, her community, her state and her country.  Her passing has left a void in the hearts of all that knew and loved her.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her two sons, Lewis Dale Anderson of Chesterfield and William George Anderson of Richmond, VA: grandchildren, Dawn Anderson, Brian and Jessica Anderson, Stephanie Anderson, Heidi and Tommy Petree ; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Anderson, Norah Anderson, Levi Anderson, Hallie Petree, Jase Petree; great-greatgrandchild, Avery Anderson; very special friends, Bruce and Rachael Baake and Dale Baake; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Young's Chapel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Doug Turnmire will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Jan. 26, 2024, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM.
