Mitchell Jeremy Cox, age 41, of Independence, VA passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. He was born on December 4, 1981, in Jefferson, NC to William Joseph and Margaret Sue Rutherford Cox.

While Mitchell loved farming and being outdoors, there is no question that his first love was being a dad and spending time with his beloved son, Trevor. Trevor was the light of his life! They were happiest when they were together riding horses, fishing, hunting, and especially working in cattle. He was a loving son who checked in with his parents daily.

Those remaining to honor and cherish his memory are his son, Trevor Cox of the home; parents, William Joe and Margaret R. Cox of Independence, VA; three brothers, Joey Cox and Tonya Clements of Independence; Travis and Savannah Cox of Cedar Bluff, VA; Brandon Cox of Independence; nephews, Jake Cox, Alex Hicks, Logan Hicks; niece, Ella Jo Cox; aunt, Marjorie Anderson of Michigan; uncles, Tommy G. Cox, Frank and Sarah Cox both of Independence; and a host of cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Brush Creek Baptist Church in Independence with Pastor Cory Byrd and Rev. David Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in the J. Mack Cox family Cemetery at 491 Hardin Cox Road Independence, VA. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the funeral service from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.
