Mitchell Dale Osborne, age 83, of Independence, VA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, July 20, 2026. He was born in Independence to Roscoe Cleveland and Viola York Osborne on July 2, 1943. He was a self-employed carpenter who took pride in his work. He was a devoted and loving father and a faithful and devoted husband to his wife of 40 years. He was an exemplary model as a father. He made no difference between his children and his stepchildren; both were treated equally with respect and love. Dale lived a simple life dedicated to a creed of simplicity and honesty. He delighted in being outdoors and hunting throughout the woods. He was always easy to track in the woods as he was notorious for leaving a candy wrapper trail! Dale was always ready and willing to go and help with any situation that called for him; whether a family member or a neighbor, he was always prepared, able, and capable of lending a helping hand. Dale will be remembered as a man of strong faith, who maintained a close relationship with God throughout his life. As an ordained Baptist Minister, he had his trust and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. As his earthly sojourn ends, his family rejoices that he has gained his heavenly home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lynn Osborne; sisters, Shirley Menendez and Lorene Pickeral; brothers, Cecil Osborne and Darrell Osborne.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Faye Osborne of the home; daughter, Kimberly Lee Osborne of Galax, VA; daughter-in-law Marsha Anderson; three step sons, Ronald and Jeannie Saunders of Snow Camp, NC, Dean and Debbie Saunders of Mebane, NC, and Rex and Sarah Saunders of Snow Camp, NC; two brothers, Harold and Karen Osborne and Dean and June Osborne both of Independence, VA; one sister, Joyce and John D’Lauro of PA; one sister-in-law, Betty Osborne of Mouth of Wilson, VA; two grandchildren, Ethan and Sarah Osborne, Marisa and Josh Westberry; four great-grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Osborne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. The family suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Osborne Family Cemetery c/o Harold Osborne, Treas. 2067 Wilson Highway Independence, VA 24348.
