Nancy Lee
Crouse Brown
October 25, 1945 — November 27, 2024
Nancy Lee Crouse Brown, age, 79, of the Elk Creek Community passed away at her home on Wednesday evening, November 27, 2024. She was born in Grayson County on October 25, 1945, to William and Bessie Crouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Alan Brown; 2 brothers, Donald Crouse and Jim Crouse; and 2 sisters, Dolly Bell and Linda Faye Crouse.
Following several years as a seamstress at Perry's Sewing factory, Nancy joined her husband and son at the family business, Brown's Motors, where her responsibilities included everything from bookkeeping, accounting, secretarial work as well as the most valued position of "parts runner." She was also skilled at horsemanship enjoying extended trail rides and camping expeditions with her family. Among her favorite horses was her American Paint Horse, Kavo. When Nancy was not creating long time memories for her family, she was busy in her vegetable garden or her flower garden. She was a dedicated wife and mother and a most efficient housewife, providing for her family while lovingly providing a warm and inviting home. She was a devoted member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church where she was often involved in offering her support always eager to serve. She was equally devoted as member of the Elk Creek Community where she found great joy in doing for others. Nancy chose not to live in the limelight, but rather remained in the background happy to champion any cause that might make the world a better place. She endorsed and lived a creed of simplicity, dignity, and honesty. While her value is uncalculatable and the magnitude of her passing is unmeasurable, her family and friends are greatly comforted in knowing that her steady lifelong faith has now become reality.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Clarence Junior Brown of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ann Brown of Galax, VA; one brother Harry and Peggy Crouse of Galax, Virginia; special caregiver, Brenda Cole; and a host of friends and neighbors also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gleasanna Dixon and Pastor Stephen Cornett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from noon until 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery in Elk Creek. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Elk Creek Fire Department PO BOX 36 Elk Creek, VA 24326 or to the Elk Creek Rescue Squad 9109 Elk Creek Parkway Elk Creek, VA 24326.
