Obituary

With great sadness and sorrow the family of Nathaniel Scott Pios, age, 42 of Independence, VA announces his passing at the Twin County Hospital in the late evening of Saturday, July 6, 2026. Nathaniel was born on August 9, 1983, in Buffalo, New York to Leonard Paul and Debra Mae McAlpine Pios.

He will be remembered for his love, dedication, and loyalty to family and friends. He was an avid collector of retro gaming components.  His collection is extensive and one of his greatest pleasures was sharing games with anybody willing to share or to play.  As a young child he was fascinated with the "Wizard of Oz," a passion which he nurtured until his passing.  He was a great cook and was famous among his ranks for his "Nathan Tacos" and "Nathan Noodles."  His cooking was often an excuse to gather family and friends to share in his culinary talents.  He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and simply loved being outside!  While he was often known to speak his mind, he could give a bear hug that could fix most any problem.  He was fiercely devoted to his children and to his wife, who were the center of his being.  He was constantly supported by his faithful canine companion, Mr. Colt who was a constant source of entertainment to him.  Nathaniel maintained his sense of service to humanity until the end.  The family has honored his request to be a medical donor in hopes that his gift will improve the lives of others.

He was preceded in death by his father.  Nathaniel is survived by his wife, Allie Pios of the home; daughter, Abbey Pios of the home; son, Joshua Pios of Galax, VA; mother and step-father, Debra and John Goad of Cana, VA; two sisters, Crystal Pios of Independence and Jessica Medley of Kernersville, NC; nephews, William Pios, Andrew Pios, and Bauer Medley; and his much loved canine companion, Mr. Colt.

A celebration of life service will be conducted as a later date which will be announced on the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home website as it becomes available.
