Nicolas Valdez, 85 of Sparta, formerly of Paso Robles, California, passed away on August 31, 2024, in Sparta, NC.  He was born on Jan. 20, 1939, in Durango, Mexico to Jose Diaz and Maria Elena Valdez.

He was a hard worker who found great joy in providing for his children and his family.  He set a good example for his children.   His provided a weekly adventure for his family that often included a trip along the California coastline and other California destinations.  He loved to cook and was a master of "the stew!"  He was well versed in health food and encouraged his family to live a healthy lifestyle.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Jean Valdez.

He is survived by his daughter, Jean Nicole Valdez of Sparta, NC; four sons, Roger and Sandra Medina of California, Miguel and Sheryl Valdez of Galax, Virginia, Juan Carlos Valdez of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jose and Cynthia Valdez of Ennice, NC; one sister, Maria Diaz of Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren also survive.

The family will gather to celebrate his life on Sept. 4, 2024, at the home of his daughter in Sparta.
