July 10, 1938 — June 22, 2024
Norma Jean Stamper Church, age 86, of the Whitetop Community passed away on Saturday evening, June 22, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Whitetop. She was born on July 10, 1938, in Whitetop to Corbett and Ruth Marie Shumate Stamper.
She will be remembered for her love of animals and nature. She was an outdoors enthusiast who find great joy in working outside cutting briars, clearing brush, clipping grass and working in her garden. Even up until her last days, she daily made an evening walk to her daughter's house where she enjoyed her supper. While she was very content on her mountain, she loved to travel as long as her travels ended at her mountain home.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Price of Whitetop, VA; one sister, Barbara Mahaffey and husband, Mike; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Amon Church; two sisters, Shirley Stamper and Anna Wyatt.
