Norma Jean (Woodward) Poole, 87, was called to Heaven on 3 August 2023. She was born to the late Arthur (Mac) Woodward and the late Margaret Mary (Williams) Woodward on 16 April 1936. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Howard (Jerry) Poole; children Mark, Jeff, and Meri Beth; and granddaughter Ashlyn Poole. She is survived by sons Michael (Cindy) of Richmond, VA; Matthew (Lisa) of San Antonio, TX and Mitchell of Wilmington, NC; 14 grandkids and 20 great grand kids. Norma was also preceded in death by siblings Bill and Kenneth Woodward and Santa Fe Hubble. Additional survivors are brothers Doug and Dickie Mitchem. Norma was known for her great love of her Lord and family. She was a "culinary genius" in the kitchen and was referred to as the Gravy Queen by her boys. "We will never forget that she would make 50 homemade biscuits, artfully crafting leftover dough into crusty seahorse shapes and filling two large skillets with savory hamburger gravy. According to younger son Mitch, 'if you weren't on your game, you might get stabbed by a fork reaching for that last biscuit.' She and dad worked hard and sought to raise their kids to be hard working individuals as well." The family is grateful to Our Lady of Hope Health Center in Short Pump, VA for enriching the final chapter of her life with excellent care. In those final days, Norma Jean would often be surrounded by a crowd of listeners as she soloed favorite hymns and songs. Although she struggled with dementia, Norma's love and kindness touched countless lives. She will be missed greatly by her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. A graveside will be held at New Haven Church of the Brethren on Saturday August 12 at 11am followed by a celebration gathering at a local venue TBD.
