The beautiful red sky of Grayson County on the morning of September 24, 2022, was noticed by many people.  The family and friends of Omajean Greer Blevins, age, 77 of Mouth of Wilson are sure that the beautiful sight was a just a little of the glory of heaven escaping as the gates were opened to welcome Omajean home.  Omajean has been in the care of her sister, Wanda Wiles, and it was from Wanda's home in Mouth of Wilson, that she took her flight surrounded by her family. She was born on March 4, 1945, in the Green Cove Community of Damascus, Virginia to Robert John and Agnes Marie Walls Greer.  She made a profession in Christ at a young age and has carried the Christian Banner with pride throughout her life.  Omajean was a devoted student of the Bible.  Every January of her adult life she would begin reading in the book of Genesis and by the end of December, she was completing the book of Revelations. A Bible study was conducted in her home for several decades either on a Tuesday or Thursday night.  She loved her church and enjoyed sitting in the same place for 45 years.  Omajean was a Christian by actions as well.  She never turned anyone away, regardless of their condition.  Her home was always open 24 hours a day- everyday!!!  Once she fed the body, she would begin feeding the soul- sharing the love of Christ to all who entered her home.  She loved to minister to the less fortunate and was a beacon of love to those suffering with addictions. While nobody was ever turned away from her home, many found comfort, peace, and a home there until they were able to move forward. Her daughter recalled her mother once saying, "I want to be a light for everybody."  That wish was granted over and over!  She loved sending cards to her family and friends for birthday, get-well, and anniversary cards.  Among her favorite gifts to receive were boxes of cards and books of stamps which enabled her to continue her ministry.  She often included Bible verses fitting to the occasion.  While Omajean never drove a car in her life, she enjoyed going with her son, Doug, and navigating his truck driving journey armed with a road atlas and a magnifying glass.  Omajean never offered a word of complaint about anything.  She never had a bad word to say about anybody and neither did anybody else while in her presence.  Her dying wish was to meet everybody in heaven- the family is greatly comforted and rejoice in realizing the welcome that greeted Omajean Saturday morning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garland Kenneth Blevins, and a daughter-in-law, Keeta Blevins.

She is survived by a daughter, Melissa and Jimmy Finley of Lansing, NC; two sons, Robert Garland Blevins of Whitetop, VA and Douglas Anthony and Denise Blevins of Galax, VA; three sisters, Louise and Melvin Blevins and Geneve and Lloyd Blevins all of Green Cove, VA, and Wanda Wiles of Mouth of Wilson, VA; one brother, Robert John Greer, Jr, and wife, Lisa, of Konnarock, VA;  special niece, Rachel Wiles of Abingdon, VA; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Helton Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Moorefield and Rev. Leonard Tinney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church.  Burial will follow in the Wall Cemetery in Whitetop, VA.
