Patricia Ann Phipps, age, 76, of Independence, VA passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022. Patricia was born in 1946 in Wilkesboro, NC to Robert and Lucile Souther.  She graduated from Piney Creek High School, and then later from Wytheville Community College at the age of 56.  Patricia grew up on a small farm in Sparta, NC with her sister, Sue Hampton, and her brother William (Joel) Souther (Sparta).

Patricia is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Phipps of Independence, VA;  two sons Matthew Phipps (Eldersburg, MD) and Andrew Phipps (Fredericksburg, VA); daughter-in-law Jennifer Phipps (Eldersburg, MD); three Grandchildren Elizabeth Phipps (Roanoke, VA), Isaiah Phipps (Ft. Leonardwood, MO) and Henry Phipps (Fredericksburg, VA); niece, Holly Bazemore  (Raleigh, NC); two nephews, Robert Hampton (Sparta, NC ) and Scott Hampton (NE); brother, William Joel and Pam Souther (Sparta, NC); and one brother-in-law, John Hampton (Sparta, NC.)

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Hampton.

During her life Patricia coached the girls' basketball team at Bridle Creek, VA, and was a Cub Scout Master in Bridle Creek where both Matthew and Andrew become Eagle Scouts.  Patricia was very active in the Band and Athletic booster clubs when Matthew and Andrew were in high school.  Patricia was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary in Independence, VA.  Patricia loved to sew dresses for the Farm Bureau and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and the VFW.  Finally, she loved farming, and helping out with the calves, especially her favorite, Myrtle.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 1:00 at the Isaiah Phipps Cemetery in the Bridle Creek Community with Rev. Derek Cowan officiating.

Mrs. Phipps will lie in state Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm where friends may call.
