Patsy Ruth Burcham Phipps, age, 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Twin County Hospital in Galax, VA on Monday, March 10, 2025.  Mrs. Phipps was born on November 24, 1940, in Grayson County Virginia to Garnie and Allene Edwards Burcham.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Sonny Burcham.

Mrs. Phipps was a dedicated teacher serving the Galax City School system for 36 years.  Throughout her career, she taught everything ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade.  She was a loyal member of Oakland United Methodist Church where she served in several positions including Sunday School Teacher, adult choir, and children's church.  She enjoyed extensive travel and delighted in telling she had visited all 50 states.  Her travels also included two family pilgrimages to the Holy Lands.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother and an especially proud "Nana" to her two grandsons.  In her retirement years, she enjoyed reading and working in her flowers.  She was an excellent cook who delighted in cooking for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Wade Phipps of the home; one daughter, Lydia and Brian Spangler of Galax, Virginia; two grandsons, Kendall and Hannah Spangler of Woodlawn, VA and Kevin Spangler ( US ARMY) of Missouri and fiancée, Amie Delp of Woodlawn, VA; four sisters, Jama Hash of Galax, VA, Peggy Calfee of Galax, VA, Arlowene Alderman of Galax, VA, and Teresa Sizemore of Galax, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church with Pastor Cindy Paxton, Rev. Richard Gregory, and Gary Boyette officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
