Ray Taylor, age 87, of, Independence, VA passed away at his home on Thursday, August 17, 2023.  He was born on October 30, 1935, in Grayson County to Glenn and Bertha Ray Taylor.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Cobb Taylor and three sisters, Janie, Lavon and Linda.

Ray was a quiet and simple person who found his greatest joy in being with his family.  He was a dedicated husband, wonderful dad, loving grandfather and great-grandfather.  In his younger years, he loved to hunt and throughout his life he enjoyed being outdoors.  He was a long-time dedicated employee of Twin County Hospital where he served in the maintenance department.  He always loved to work whether it was at the hospital or at home.  In years past, he enjoyed cattle farming.  In more recent years, he found great enjoyment in help his son, Wesley, at the family sawmill. Ray spent his whole life providing for others which brought him great joy and contentment.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army.  His service will be recognized as military honors will be performed by the Grayson V.F.W. Post #7726 and the United States Army at the graveside service which will be conducted on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Salem Cemetery 35 Salem Lane Independence, VA 24348.  Rev. Tom Burcham and Rev. Wilmer Shepherd will officiate.  The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA from 12:30-1:30 prior to the graveside service at Salem Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor is survived by two sons James E. and Kathy Taylor of Kingsport, TN and John Wesley and Debbie Taylor of Independence, VA;  brothers, Eugene and Irene Taylor of Yadkinville, NC, David and Barbara Taylor of Independence, VA; sister, Mary Taylor of Independence, VA; sister-in-law, Susan Little of Franklin, VA; one grandson, Daniel Ray Taylor of Galax, VA; three granddaughters, Jasmine and Jason Utt of Kingsport, TN, Josie and Mike Howell of Texas; Ariann Taylor of Wytheville, VA; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
