Obituary

Rena Lois Farmer Galyean, age 91, of Galax, VA passed away at her home on October 2, 2022.  She was born in Rugby, Virginia on June 19, 1931, to Lydia and Laura Hall Farmer. Mrs. Galyean was a cook at Waddell Nursing Home prior to her retirement.  She was also employed at several sewing textile factories.  She was a devoted and loving mother, wife and grandmother.  She often accompanied her husband on his truck driving expeditions.  She was a member of Haw Orchard Baptist Church and attended the Bible Baptist Church near her home.  Her family will remember her as a thoughtful and loving person whose life was live as a Christian woman as outlined in Proverbs 31.  She delighted in making a warm and safe home for her husband and her children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.  She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James T. Galyean of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Pam Galyean of Galax, one daughter, Aletta Hanks and Jeff Grass of Galax; three grandchildren, Brandon and Jada Galyean, Ashley Galyean all of Galax, Zane and Melissa Hanks of Texas; three great-grandchildren, Tinley, Hollynn, and Ezme; two brothers, Tracy Farmer of Washington State, and Edward Farmer of Galax.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 11:30 AM at the Galyean Cemetery in the Baywood Community with Pastor Barry Newman officiating.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA is serving the Galyean family.
