Rena Devada Thompson, age 64, of Independence, Virginia died on January 14, 2022 at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta, North Carolina.  She was born on May 28, 1957 in Independence to Ellis and Mary Edith Phipps Thompson.

Rena was a devoted mother to many -- especially to her two boys.  She proclaimed her faith often by stating "I'm blessed by the best."  She was a wonderful sister and friend to everybody.  She faced her death peacefully, closing her eyes knowing it was well with her soul.

Surviving are two sons, Jarrett Thompson and Jeffery Howell both of Independence, Virginia; spiritual daughter, Tiffany Price of Independence, VA; one brother, Robin Thompson of Independence, Virginia; three sisters, Delilah Thompson of Independence, Delina and Bill Parks of Galax, Virginia and Margie and Stan Kyle of Ennis, NC; two godchildren, Christian Price and Destiny Price, both of Independence, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 20, at 12:00 NOON at the

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gerald Phipps and Co-Pastor, Doris Phipps officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 prior to the funeral.  Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
