Richard Wiley Donovan, 83, passed away on June 24, 2026. Richard was born on January 22, 1943,in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Davidson College in North Carolina with a degree in Mathematics and received his MBA from the University of Baltimore. Richard taught high school math before turning to a career in banking for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, chess, bridge, reading, canoeing, country music and dancing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lou, his children, Mark (Melissa) of Memphis, Tennessee and Erin (Darin) of Columbia, Maryland, Lauri (Steve) of Holly Springs, North Carolina and Michael (Emma) of Winston-Salem North Carolina, grandchildren Grace, Alex, Dominic, Stevie and Zoe, and his brother Robert (Jeannie) of Radford, Virginia and their son, Mathew. He is also survived by his first wife, Mary, of Laurel, Maryland, mother of Mark and Erin and grandmother of Grace and Alex. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Woodrow Donovan and Ellen Rosamond (nee Wiley) Donovan.

Richard's funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Virginia with a service from 10:30-11:00 a.m. and burial immediately following at the Flat Rock Cemetery in Independence.
