Obituary

Richard Walter Lignor, age 81, of Cana, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, Virginia.  He was born on April 29, 1941, to Stanley and Esther Lilly Kneeland Lignor in Willimantic, CT. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Lignor.

Mr. Lignor was a life-long gardener who was a gardener and landscaper by profession. He was most happy and content when he was in a garden.  As a gardener, he was especially interested in the weather and daily checked the forecast to make his plans for the next day.  He was always at a loss on rainy days!  He was a most devoted husband and took great joy in spoiling his grandchildren.  They knew to expect his call every night at 6:50 PM!!! ALWAYS!!!  He was a great craftsman often designing and creating doll houses and bird houses for the enjoyment of others.  He will be remembered for his pipe smoking and reading and his loyalty as a Mets fan!  At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Lignor of Independence, VA; daughter, Carolyn and Paul Nagy of Cana, Virginia; five grandchildren, Mari, Kailyn and Tony Sawyers of Cana, VA, Nichole and Brandon Lawson of Independence, VA, Jezeral Lignor of CT, and Charlene Lignor of CT; four great grandchildren, Jennifer, Candace, Trinity, and Diga.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is serving the Lignor family.
